I started an income replacement scheme in 1993.  I would be the first to admit that I took a lot of persuasion to take out the scheme being of the "it won't ever happen to me" brigade.  In 2004 I was diagnosed with a lymphoma on my spine which resulted in nine months in hospital and being permanently disabled thereafter.  Subsequently, due to my health and rapidly deteriorating economy, my company has downsized radically and I can honestly say that the Income Replacement Scheme has been absolutely invaluable.  Without it I would have been in a very difficult position and don't really know how I would have coped.  Probably the best money I have ever spent.
